In May, seventy-two organizations that serve the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community joined to support the signing of a letter to urge the Senate Judiciary Committee to do its job and hold a fair hearing and vote on the Supreme Court nominee. Asian Services In Action, Inc. (ASIA) was one of those seventy-two organizations across the nation to show support in the letter to the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the U.S Supreme Court vacancy.
The letter emphasized how critical a full court is for AAPIs, especially given the issues before the court that impacts our communities, including immigration and affirmative action. Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) and the National Council on Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) took the lead in joining together organizations across the nation support of a fair hearing and vote.
The letter was sent on May 24, 2016 as part of the larger AAPI Week of Action on the Supreme Court Vacancy. ASIA will continue to stand next to these organizations to advocate for the AAPI community on the Supreme Court vacancy and educate legislators and other decision-makers on its impact on AAPIs across the country.
